EXECUTIVE MEETING MINUTES
OCTOBER 9, 2013

THE BARR-REEVE BOARD OF EDUCATION MET IN EXECUTIVE SESSION ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2013 AT 8:00 P.M. AT THE ADMINISTRATION OFFICE OF BARR-REEVE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS. BOARD MEMBERS SCOTT LOTTES, GALEN GRABER AND JOE CUMMINGS WERE PRESENT.  ALSO PRESENT WAS THE SUPERINTENDENT TRAVIS MADISON.  

THE MEETING WAS CALLED TO ORDER.

A DISCUSSION WAS HELD ON COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AND JOB PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OR INDIVIDUAL EMPLOYEES. THIS SUBDIVISION DOES NOT APPLY TO A DISCUSSION OF THE SALARY, COMPENSATION OR BENEFITS OF EMPLOYEES DURING A BUDGET PROCESS. A MOTION WAS MADE BY SCOTT LOTTES AND SECONDED BY GALEN GRABER TO ADJOURN THE MEETING. MOTION CARRIED AND MEETING WAS ADJOURNED.

REGULAR BOARD MEETING
OCTOBER 9, 2013

THE BARR-REEVE BOARD OF EDUCATION MET IN REGULAR SESSION ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2013 AT 8:30 P.M. IN THE ADMINISTRATION OFFICE OF BARR-REEVE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS.  BOARD MEMBERS SCOTT LOTTES, GALEN GRABER AND JOE CUMMINGS WERE PRESENT. ALSO PRESENT WERE THE SUPERINTENDENT TRAVIS MADISON AND THOSE LISTED ON THE ATTACHED SIGN-IN SHEET.

TRAVIS MADISON CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER.

THE BOARD APPROVED THE MINUTES OF THE MEETINGS HELD ON SEPTEMBER 9 & 19, 2013.  JOE CUMMINGS MADE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE MINUTES AS PRESENTED AND SCOTT LOTTES SECONDED THE MOTION.  MOTION CARRIED.

THERE WERE NO COMMENTS FROM PATRONS CONCERNING ITEMS ON THE AGENDA.

IN NEW BUSINESS, THE BOARD ACCEPTED THE FOLLOWING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT REQUEST:

SEPT 20 – INDIANA/KENTUCKY CHALLENGE CUP MEETING – LOUISVILLE, KY – BRYAN HUGHES

NOV 8 – ANNUAL KOMPUTROL USERS MEETING – PLAINFIELD – MARY LOTTES & TAMARA SWARTZENTRUBER

NOV 24 – 26 – IASP FALL PROFESSIONALS CONFERENCE – INDIANAPOLIS, IN – DENA LENGACHER & JENNIFER LEE

SCOTT LOTTES MADE A MOTION TO APPROVE ALL PROFESSIONAL

DEVELOPMENT REQUESTS.  JOE CUMMINGS SECONDED THE MOTION AND MOTION CARRIED.

ALSO IN NEW BUSINESS, THE BOARD ACCEPTED THE FOLLOWING FIELD TRIP REQUESTS:

SEPT 14 – HS BAND – IU FOOTBALL BAND DAY – BLOOMINGTON, IN – STEPHANIE O’BRIAN

OCT 9 – JH & HS SPELL BOWL – OAKLAND CITY, IN – NANCY HARRISON & JOSH SCHULTHEIS

OCT 22 – MIDDLE SCHOOL SPELL BOWL – JASPER, IN – NANCY HARRISON

NOV 15 & 16 – HS BETA – BETA CONVENTION – INDIANAPOLIS, IN – NANCY HARRISON & BETH ANN DEVILLEZ

GALEN GRABER MADE A MOTION TO ACCEPT THE FIELD TRIP AS EDUCATIONAL. SCOTT LOTTES SECONDED THE MOTION.  MOTION CARRIED.

IN PERSONNEL, THE BOARD APPROVED ALISHA WADE AS THE ELEMENTARY CHEER COACH. JOE CUMMINGS MADE A MOTION TO ACCEPT THIS POSITION AS STATED. GALEN GRABER SECONDED THE MOTION AND MOTION CARRIED.

THE BOARD APPROVED THE RETIREMENT OF KAREN GRABER. SCOTT LOTTES MADE A MOTION TO ACCEPT THE RETIREMENT AND THANKED HER FOR THE MANY YEARS THAT SHE PUT IN AT BARR-REEVE. GALEN GRABER SECONDED THE MOTION AND MOTION CARRIED.

IN OTHER NEWS, SUPERINTENDENT MADISON REMINDED EVERYONE THAT FALL BREAK IS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 11 AND MONDAY, OCTOBER 14.

IN REPORTS, MR MADISON REMINDED THE BOARD THAT THE 2013 ISBA FALL REGION MEETING IS MONDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2013.

CLAIM NUMBERS 749 – 849 WERE PRESENTED TO THE BOARD FOR PAYMENT. GALEN GRABER MADE A MOTION TO ACCEPT ALL CLAIMS AS PRESENTED. JOE CUMMINGS SECONDED THE MOTION AND MOTION CARRIED.

TRAVIS ASKED IF ANY OF THE PATRONS HAD ANY COMMENTS. THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE COMMENTED, HAD A QUESTION OR CONCERN: MARIA KNEPP, ANITA HART, JAYR PERKINS, TONY DUNCHEON, MARK HOLT, GINA NICHOLSON, ALBERT KAVANAUGH, KENDRA LEROY, TREY SHOWALTER, BRET GRABER, JULIE SLUDER, GWEN GRABER, TERI HOLT, DENNIS SCHUTZ, JOAN SCHUTZ & LISA DUNCHEON.

THE NEXT REGULARLY SCHEDULED MEETING WILL BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 12, 2013.

THERE BEING NO FURTHER BUSINESS, TRAVIS MADISON STATED HE WOULD ENTERTAIN A MOTION TO ADJOURN.  SCOTT LOTTES MADE A MOTION TO ADJOURN THE MEETING AND JOE CUMMINGS SECONDED THE MOTION.  MOTION CARRIED AND MEETING WAS ADJOURNED.
