EXECUTIVE MEETING MINUTES
MAY 14, 2013

THE BARR-REEVE BOARD OF EDUCATION MET IN EXECUTIVE SESSION ON TUESDAY, MAY 14, 2013 AT 7:00 P.M. AT THE ADMINISTRATION OFFICE OF BARR-REEVE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS. BOARD MEMBERS GALEN GRABER, SCOTT LOTTES AND JOE CUMMINGS WERE PRESENT.  ALSO PRESENT WAS THE SUPERINTENDENT TRAVIS MADISON.  

THE MEETING WAS CALLED TO ORDER.

A DISCUSSION WAS HELD OF STRATEGY WITH RESPECT TO COLLECTIVE BARGAINING. ALSO A DISCUSSION WAS HELD ON JOB PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF INDIVIDUAL EMPLOYEES. 

A MOTION WAS MADE BY SCOTT LOTTES AND SECONDED BY GALEN GRABER TO ADJOURN THE MEETING. MOTION CARRIED AND MEETING WAS ADJOURNED.

REGULAR BOARD MEETING MINUTES
MAY 14, 2013

THE BARR-REEVE BOARD OF EDUCATION MET IN SPECIAL SESSION ON TUESDAY, MAY 14, 2013 AT 8:00 P.M. IN THE ADMINISTRATION OFFICE OF BARR-REEVE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS.  BOARD MEMBERS SCOTT LOTTES AND JOE CUMMINGS WERE PRESENT. ALSO PRESENT WERE THE SUPERINTENDENT TRAVIS MADISON AND THOSE LISTED ON THE ATTACHED SIGN-IN SHEET.

TRAVIS MADISON CALLED THE MEETING TO ORDER.

THE BOARD APPROVED THE MINUTES OF THE MEETING HELD APRIL 9, 29, & 30, 2013.  SCOTT LOTTES MADE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE MINUTES AS PRESENTED AND JOE CUMMINGS SECONDED THE MOTION.  MOTION CARRIED.

THERE WERE NO COMMENTS FROM PATRONS CONCERNING ITEMS ON THE AGENDA.

IN NEW BUSINESS, THE BOARD ACCEPTED THE FOLLOWING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT REQUESTS:

APR 10 & 11 – DYNAMIC MINI LESSONS FOR READING & WRITING – HUNTINGBURG EVENT CENTER – NANCY HARRISON, KELLY BADGER & JOSH SCHULTHEIS

APR 26 & 27 – INDIANA BASKETBALL COACHES ASSOCIATION CLINIC – INDINANAPOLIS, IN – BRYAN HUGHES

JOE CUMMINGS MADE A MOTION TO APPROVE ALL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT REQUESTS.  SCOTT LOTTES SECONDED THE MOTION AND MOTION CARRIED.

ALSO IN NEW BUSINESS, THE BOARD ACCEPTED THE FOLLOWING FIELD TRIP REQUEST:

APR 26 – FACS CLUB – KOHL’S DEPT STORE & BRAYTON’S – VINCENNES, IN – SHEILA CONDRA

MAY 6 – KINDERGARTEN – WASHINGTON PARK & LIBRARY – LINDSEY FREYBERGER, AMY KAVANAUGH, JAYNA WILD, & SUSAN JACOBS

MAY 8 – STUDENT COUNCIL – MI PUEBLO – TERI HOLT

MAY 9 – 5TH GRADE – GLENDALE & DAVIESS COUNTY SECURITY CENTER – BRET GRABER & ASHLEY SEAL

MAY 20 – 5TH GRADE – SPRING MILL STATE PARK – BRET GRABER & ASHLEY SEAL

SCOTT LOTTES MADE A MOTION TO ACCEPT THE FIELD TRIP AS EDUCATIONAL. JOE CUMMINGS SECONDED THE MOTION.  MOTION CARRIED.

IN PERSONNEL, UPON A RECOMMENDATION FROM SUPERINTENDENT TRAVIS MADISON AND HEAD CUSTODIAN MARK YODER, THE BOARD APPROVED BEAU SLUDER AND HANNAH STUTZMAN AS SUMMER HELPERS. JOE CUMMINGS MADE A MOTION TO ACCEPT THIS POSITION AS STATED. SCOTT LOTTES SECONDED THE MOTION AND MOTION CARRIED.

ALSO THE BOARD APPROVED ELEMENTARY SUMMER SCHOOL TEACHERS UPON RECOMMENDATION FROM SUPERINTENDENT TRAVIS MADISON. THEY ARE LISTED AS BROOKE STUCKEY, ANDREA HUFF, TENLEY LESTER, KERRI BOYD, AMY KAVANAUGH, & LINDSEY FREYBERGER. LAURA CRANEY WAS ALSO RECOMMENDED FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER PE AIDE. SCOTT LOTTES MADE A MOTION TO ACCEPT THESE POSITIONS AS STATED. JOE CUMMINGS SECONDED THE MOTION AND MOTION CARRIED.

IN OTHER NEWS, ALL OF THE BUILDINGS WILL BE REKEYED OVER THE SUMMER. KEY CARDS WILL REPLACE TRADITIONAL KEYS.

IN REPORTS, SUPERINTENDENT TRAVIS MADISON TOLD THE BOARD THAT HE WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE MIDDLE/HIGH SCHOOL WAS RECOGNIZED AS A 4 STAR SCHOOL. HE CONGRATULATED THE STAFF, STUDENTS AND PARENTS FOR ALL THEIR HARD WORK.

ALSO, SUPERINTENDENT TRAVIS MADISON AND THE BOARD THANKED THE COMMUNITY FOR HELPING WITH GETTING THE REFERENDUM PASSED. MR MADISON WANTED TO THANK THE BOARD, STAFF, & STEERING COMMITTEE ON ALL THE TIME THEY PUT INTO THIS.  BOARD MEMBER SCOTT LOTTES ALSO STATED THAT HE WAS VERY PROUD TO BE A BOARD MEMBER HERE. IF WE HAD TO BE A SECOND-RATED SCHOL THEN WE WOULD HAVE NEEDED TO DO SOMETHING ELSE. THE KIDS COME FIRST HERE AND IT TAKES GOOD TEACHERS AND PARENTS TO MAKE US ALL SUCCESSFUL.

MR MADISON ALSO ANNOUCED THAT THE AWARDS PROGRAMS AT BOTHE ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE/HIGH SCHOOL WERE THIS WEEK.

SUPERINTENDENT MADISON ALSO STATED THAT HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION IS SATURDAY, MAY 25 AT 2PM IN THE GYMNASIUM.

CLAIM NUMBERS 327 – 391 WERE PRESENTED TO THE BOARD FOR PAYMENT. SCOTT LOTTES MADE A MOTION TO ACCEPT ALL CLAIMS AS PRESENTED. JOE CUMMINGS SECONDED THE MOTION AND MOTION CARRIED.

THE NEXT REGULARLY SCHEDULED MEETING WILL BE HELD ON JUNE 11, 2013.

THERE BEING NO FURTHER BUSINESS, TRAVIS MADISON STATED HE WOULD ENTERTAIN A MOTION TO ADJOURN.  JOE CUMMINGS MADE A MOTION TO ADJOURN THE MEETING AND SCOTT LOTTES SECONDED THE MOTION.  MOTION CARRIED AND MEETING WAS ADJOURNED
